|We desperately need more research on Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS), a rare and life-threatening cancer that mainly affects children and for which current treatments are often ineffective.|
(RMS) is a type of sarcoma -- cancers that develop from connective tissues in the body such as muscles and fat – that occurs mostly in the head, neck, urogenital tract, and the arms and legs. The most common forms affect young children, but the disease also does occur in teenagers and adults.
There are two main types of RMS, embryonal and alveolar. Embryonal is the most common and usually affects children in their first 5 years of life. Alveolar affects all age groups, but is most often seen in older children and teenagers. A third type, anaplastic RMS, is uncommon and occurs mainly in adults.
Your contributions to Friends of TJ Foundation will support scientific research on RMS at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, a not-for-profit research and education institution that shares the Foundation’s commitment to finding a cure. By partnering with CSHL, we are also furthering the ability of the Foundation to provide comfort and knowledge to RMS patients and their families.
